“Swiss Sounds” gives Swiss public transport its soundtrack

In partnership with Travel Switzerland, French composer and producer Thylacine travelled through Switzerland to create the audio-visual piece.

How does Switzerland sound? That’s the question that led the 33-year-old composer known as Thylacine to travel more than two weeks through Switzerland, recording sounds from glacier caves to mountain railways. The result: “Swiss Sounds”, an audio-visual homage to the accidental melodies of Switzerland and its landscapes. The video of the project has been viewed over 20 million times since its launch two months ago.

What are the defining tones and notes of nature in Switzerland? In collaboration with Switzerland Tourism and Travel Switzerland, French composer Thylacine travelled nearly two and a half weeks through the country filming and collecting samples of its most typical sounds. From these, he created the musical collage of “Swiss Sounds”.

Taking a total of 23 trains, three cableways, two boats and a bus, Thylacine recorded samples of over 200 different sounds. “This is one of the craziest and most creative musical projects I’ve ever worked on. Thank you for opening the door to your wonderful country”, the musician wrote on Instagram.
