Booking tips for panoramic trains this summer

Booking early, upgrading to first class, switching travel direction, travelling in the inter-season or taking a different train on the same line: following these easy tips will improve both the booking process and travel experience this summer.

Book early

During high season (June to September), early booking is strongly recommended, especially for the Glacier Express and Bernina Express. Reservation windows vary by train and system, ranging from three months up to the full timetable period. For groups, request your booking directly from the ticket provider.”

Travel 1st class

In most panoramic trains, 1st class has more available places. It’s worth convincing your clients to upgrade for the increased comfort and privacy.

Consider switching the direction of travel

On a lot of panoramic train lines, one travel direction will be busier than another. For example, the Luzern-Interlaken Express is often more full travelling from Lucerne than from Interlaken.

Consider the inter-season periods

Most panoramic trains have places available in the months of October and April. Booking early also helps here.

Same route, different train

Regular passenger trains also run on many of the touristic panoramic lines. These services may not run directly, which can offer an opportunity to stop and enjoy a region. It’s worth checking reservation options for tickets and seats.
