With the opening of its fifth and final section in December 2025, the FlemXpress marks a milestone in alpine transport. The ten-person gondola cableway provides continuous access from Flims to the Sardona UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena and restores cableway access to the Cassons area for the first time in over ten years.
A new era of alpine mobility in Flims–Laax
After years of planning and construction, the FlemXpress gondola system is now fully operational. Stretching from the valley at 1,100 metres to 2,675 metres above sea level, the cableway connects Flims with the high alpine terrain around Cassons and the Sardona UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena – an area renowned for its unique tectonic formations.
World-first rope taxi technology
The FlemXpress is the world’s first cabelway system to operate using an innovative rope taxi technology. Rather than circulating continuously, cabins are dispatched on demand to passengers at each of the six stations. The system prevents empty cabins from making unnecessary journeys, reducing energy consumption while maintaining comfort and flexibility for guests.
Direct access to UNESCO World Heritage landscapes
Beyond impressive technical innovation, the FlemXpress plays a key role in Flims-Laax’s sustainable development. By restoring public transport access to the Cassons for the first time in a decade, the cableway opens up new possibilities for hiking, sightseeing and nature-based experiences – all seamlessly integrated into Switzerland’s public transport network.
Seamless integration into Swiss public transport
Easily accessible by train and bus, the FlemXpress strengthens the Flims–Laax region as a car-free travel destination. Combined with products such as the Swiss Travel Pass, international guests can reach this high alpine landscape comfortably, sustainably and without a private vehicle.
