Gotthard Panorama Express 10th anniversary season with daily service

The Gothard Panorama Express reveals Switzerland at its most diverse. In 2026, the line will offer daily service for the first time, travelling between Lucerne and Lugano from 18 April to 18 October.

A journey aboard the Gothard Panorama Express begins with a scenic boat cruise across Lake Lucerne, from the historic city of Lucerne to the dramatic alpine landscape of the Urnersee. In Flüelen, travellers transfer from the historic paddle steamer to the SBB’s first-class panoramic train.

From here, the rail journey continues through the imposing Reuss Valley in Uri and along the historic Gotthard mountain line – one of Switzerland’s most beautiful and historically significant panoramic routes – before reaching the Mediterranean-influenced canton of Ticino.

Guests enjoy multilingual onboard commentary, comfortable first-class panoramic carriages, a dedicated photo coach with opening windows and organised luggage transport. Seasonal and regional specialities are served on board the boat, while snacks and drinks are available at your seat on the panoramic train.

In 2025, the Gotthard Panorama Express received the UIC Top Rail Tourism Friendly Award in the category “Best Rail Tourist Product or Initiative”.
