The Säntis cableway is being comprehensively modernised and replaced by a new, high-performance gondola cableway. The “Säntis 2026” project involves technical upgrades, larger gondola cabins and a raised intermediate pylon.

Modernisation with a focus on comfort and stability

The new Säntis cableway is designed to significantly improve the guest experience to one of Eastern Switzerland’s most iconic peaks. Modern technology, larger panoramic cabins and enhanced wind stability ensure a smoother and more comfortable journey to the summit. The current second pylon will be raised to create an intermediate stop with a guest platform for boarding and alighting.

Operation continues during construction

Despite initial construction work beginning in 2025, cableway services will remain fully operational until the end of April 2026. A temporary closure is planned from May 2026 until late autumn 2026 to allow for the installation of the new system. During this time, the summit will be accessible only by foot or by helicopter.

Opening planned for 2027

First rides on the new aerial tramway are scheduled for late autumn 2026, with an official opening planned for spring 2027.
