Switzerland has further enhanced its international train connections with the 2026 timetable. Additional direct services from Italy, Germany and France make travel to Switzerland by public transport even more convenient for international guests.
More direct connections from Italy
Travellers from Italy will benefit from two additional daily, direct services each way between Milan and Zurich. The existing direct connection from Bologna will be extended to run from Florence. From the end of March to the end of May, as well as in October, services from Genoa will operate further south from La Spezia, and even from Livorno at weekends. Due to construction work in Italy, these services are currently not guaranteed from June to September.
Expanded services from Germany
Rail travel from Germany to Switzerland will also see improvements. For the first time, travellers will be able to enjoy direct journeys between Berlin and Brig as well as between Köln / Dortmund and Hamburg and Brig. Furthermore, the number of direct connections to and from Chur will be increased to four daily trains in each direction, significantly improving the reachability of the Canton of Grisons.
Additionally, SBB Giruno trains will run on two daily connections in each direction between Hamburg and Basel.
The new generation of ÖBB Nightjet trains went into operations between Hamburg and Zürich in December 2025. These enhance the comfort of the night connections between the two cities thanks to their privacy-enhancing Mini-Cabins as well as toilets and shower options in every sleeper compartment.
The SBB is also expanding its international luggage services, allowing travellers returning to Germany to have their luggage collected from their accommodation and delivered directly to their destination.
Strengthened seasonal link from France
Connections from France will be enhanced with the extension of the seasonal direct service between Lausanne and Marseille (via Geneva). In 2026, the route will operate from April to October. Trains will run daily in July and August, and from Thursday to Monday during the remaining months.
