The Glacier Express offers one of the world’s most memorable train travel experiences on its eight-hour journey between Zermatt and St. Moritz. Part of the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland, it enchants and entertains guests with great on-board catering and some of the best views in the Alps.
Highlight after highlight
From the majestic Matterhorn to the glittering lakes of the Upper Engadin, the Glacier Express is a feast for the eyes. Travelling through 91 tunnels and 291 bridges, the train treats passengers to the glacial landscapes of the 2,033-metre-high Oberalp Pass, the plunging slopes of the 400-metre-deep Rhine Gorge, and the giant arches of the Landwasser Viaduct – one of Switzerland’s most photographed sections of rail. Included in the Swiss Travel Pass
The Glacier Express can be enjoyed with a valid Swiss Travel Pass. However, seat reservations are mandatory and include a surcharge. We highly recommend advance booking to ensure your clients can enjoy this great alpine train journey.
2nd, 1st and Excellence Class
Three travel classes are available on board the Glacier Express. All feature ceiling-high panoramic windows for uninterrupted views of the alpine panoramas gliding by. Meals in both 1st and 2nd class are available upon advance booking. In 2nd class, seats are arranged in groups of four around a table, while 1st class offers seating for two or four passengers.
The Glacier Express “Excellence Class” provides pure slow travel luxury: guaranteed window seats (two seats facing each other at one table), champagne and welcome aperitif platter, a seasonal and regional five-course menu with wine accompaniment, an onboard concierge, and the full-service Glacier Bar.
