Excellence Talk introduces you to the magic of the Rigi

At Travel Switzerland, we continue to bring you the most captivating insights into Swiss public transport through our Excellence Talk series. Our latest episode takes you on an extraordinary journey with the historic Rigi Railways, offering a glimpse into the marvels of this iconic Swiss attraction.

This time, we had the privilege of exploring the Queen of the Mountains – Mount Rigi. Donning historical costumes, our hosts travelled back in time to 1871, the year Europe’s first mountain railway was founded.

From the scenic departure at Vitznau to the breathtaking summit at Rigi Kulm, our journey was nothing short of magical. While most visitors opt for a historical ride from Arth-Goldau and return via modern car from Vitznau, we embarked on a historical ride from Vitznau to the summit. This ride perfectly encapsulated the charm and grandeur of the Rigi Railways, a pioneer that allowed everyone to experience Alpine tourism.

Our adventure did not stop at the summit. We made our way to the Käserei Alp Chäserenholz, a cheese dairy renowned for its artisanal cheese. Here, we experienced the delightful process of cheese-making and indulged in tasting selected varieties. This exclusive treat is a testament to the local craftsmanship and tradition that visitors can savour only on Rigi.

One of the highlights of our trip was a bonfire spectacle. Hosted by Roger Joss, Head of Sales International, this event is a favourite among trade and study groups. We enjoyed sizzling sausages by the fire and engaged in an insightful interview with Roger, learning about the unique experiences Rigi offers to its visitors.

Our journey concluded with a visit to the iconic Sendeturm Rigi and the terrace of Bergrestaurant Rigi Kulm. Mount Rigi, though not towering above 2,000 meters, is a legendary destination full of contrasts – from historical landmarks to modern-day adventures, catering to historians, hikers, and foodies alike.

We also had the pleasure of interviewing Sales Manager Olivia Wang, who shared her fascinating insights about this magnificent destination.

Mount Rigi is one of the most popular mountain excursions. And rightly so. Not only would the presenters have loved to stay longer on this magnificent day. But as they say, you should leave when it’s at its best. The presenters said their goodbyes with a “Stay Excellent”. But one thing is guaranteed: they will be back.
