Rigi Railways: where history meets modernity
Europe’s first cog railway
With Rigi Railways, visitors embark on a unique journey through time. From Arth-Goldau, a historic cog railway takes you up to the “Queen of the Mountains”. The return trip from Rigi Kulm to Vitznau, however, is aboard a state-of-the-art railcar. This clever vehicle stores the braking energy from the descent and uses it for the ascent.
Ingenious, don’t you think? Good to know: The trip to the Rigi is included in the Swiss Travel Pass. Children under 16 travel free of charge – provided they are accompanied by an adult. Tip: A trip to the Rigi can be perfectly combined with a detour to Ticino.
The Gotthard Panorama Express, which requires reservations, departs Arth-Goldau at 13:40 and arrives in Lugano at 16:14.
